One thing I really want to do with my blog is feature local businesses and small businesses in the U.S. I want to feature the services people offer, the unique talent that creatives get to share with us, and the passion that drives someone to pursue their dreams.
I want to share with you a custom airbrush tanning salon, Tanique! It’s located here in West Des Moines! When Traci {owner of Tanique} contacted me, I was so happy to know that their tanning solution consists of natural and organic ingredients!
I was also excited to check out the services they had to offer especially for my husband, Blaine! I’m sure Blaine wasn’t the only one, but he was looking very pale because of winter. Of course I think Blaine is sexy either pale or tan 😉 , but in February, Blaine looked in the mirror one day and said, “Gosh, I’m so pale that I look like I’m sick.” Yikes!
As you can imagine when I told him I wanted to try out a custom airbrush tanning salon, he was both curious and also very much looking forward to it!
It’s important to read the FAQ before coming in to get a tan. This really helped us since we’e never had a spray tan before. For instance, you should NOT be wearing deodorant, lotion, or makeup when you get a spray tan.
We walked in, and I instantly loved this inviting space with modern touches!
They have various items available for purchase such as body wash for a longer lasting spray tan, sunscreen, jewelry, sunglasses, and clothing.
Guess what?! You can host parties here! It’s perfect for getting some girlfriends together especially a bridal party! I can also see dance teams getting together for a fun night! They have a break room that you can take over, complimentary beverages, and the host receives a free gift!! YASSS!!
Ok, time to get our tan on! Blaine definitely wanted some color, and I just wanted a nice glow. I’m obviously already tan, but it doesn’t mean I can’t get a spray tan! 🙂 We decided to go with the “signature tan.” After we told her what we wanted as far as outcome , she created a custom color for each of us!
In the room, there’s a cabinet full of items such as a disposable underwear, hair cap, towel, and wipes. Blaine was in his undies (guys have to wear bottoms). I wore a thong and went topless to avoid any lines. Traci pointed out the lotion on top of the cabinet and suggested that we apply lotion on our hands, knees, elbows, and feet. I guess these areas tend to get darker than the rest because of the curves.

She then applied a dry powder in the creases. This is an add on service from your custom spray tan.
That seriously was quick and easy! What a great experience! Blaine looked awesome, and I love how it evened out my skin tone. Also, my stretch marks on my stomach weren’t as prominent after the spray tan. I was like can my stretch marks look like this all the time. 😉
With the “signature tan” that we chose, you can’t take a shower, bath, or get sweaty for a minimum of 8 hours after the spray tan. They do have a “rapid tan” which lets you shower within 2-4 hours after your spray tan.

I highly recommend heading to Tanique the next time you want to get a natural looking glow! It’s definitely an instant confidence booster! This is great before a wedding, special event, bridal party, senior / engagement / family photo shoot, dance competition, etc. It’s a safer alternative to a tanning bed!
